(AMM) Flush with emissions victory, AISI tackles energy problem

The U.S. steel industry, fresh off its victory in shooting down a controversial emissions cap-and-trade bill in the Senate, is stepping up pressure on the federal government to make additional energy resources available.

Andrew G. Sharkey III, president and chief executive officer of the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington, has asked Rep. Norman Dicks (D., Wash.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, to support a legislative amendment that would lift a moratorium on energy leasing in areas 50 miles off U.S. shores.
