Antam’s Pongkor gold mine attacked

Artisan miners attacked Indonesia’s state-owned PT Aneka Tambang (Antam)’s gold mine in Pongkor, West Java, on September 19, though mining and gold processing activities have not been affected, a company spokesman told MB
The disturbance erupted when the miners confronted local
police after they had conducted a joint security operation on
illegal gold mining activities, the spokesman said. Forty four
miners alleged to be involved in illegal activities were taken
for questioning by the authorities. Around 700 artisan miners
gathered at Pongkor and demanded the release of their
