European mineral demand, including silicas & carbonates, worst hit for fillers in cars

The main European filler minerals – accounting for around 5.5m. tpa production in 2007 – have traditionally been closely linked to consumer markets: including automotive (particularly tyres), wire and cable, flooring, household appliances, and sealants.

Prior to the economic downturn, demand for the main filler minerals (ground calcium carbonate [GCC], carbon black, talcs, kaolin) had been forecast to grow by 2-3% in 2009.
