BBTS expects tin output to fall below 50% of capacity

Indonesian tin consortium Bangka Belitung Timah Sejahtera (BBTS) expects June-September output to fall further to below 50% of its 3,000-4,000 tpm capacity despite rising tin prices.

Production was around 2,000 tonnes in May, said BBTS director Patris Lumumba. Rising tin prices mean higher wages for tin miners, raising production costs further in the dry and hot June-September season when it is already harder to find water for mining, more of which is needed every year as miners are forced to dig deeper as Bangka's resources deplete, he said.
