A trade association of auto dismantlers has asked for careful study of a chemical intended for future vehicle air conditioners.
"We have several concerns regarding potentially adverse consequences from the new refrigerant," labeled HFO-1234yf (hydrofluoroolefin), said Michael Wilson, executive vice president of the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA).
The ARA expressed concerns over the possibility of employee health impacts, costlier removal procedures from defunct vehicles and eventual changes in the rules affecting air quality, water runoff and storage.
