Hopes of saving Alcoa’s Italian primary aluminium smelters from closure are fading ahead of a meeting between trade unions, the government and the US producer’s Italian management on Thursday

Last Thursday’s meeting lasted into the early hours of Friday morning and ended without resolution, an official at the metalworkers union FIOM told MB. Representatives from the three Italian industrial trade unions continued the meeting in a square outside government buildings in Rome until 3.30am, he said.
