Lithium group to build electrolytic manganese dioxide plant for battery industry

 

The Australian group expects to complete a definitive feasibility study by Q3 2010, secure funding for project in Q4 and complete construction by Q4 2011.

 

EMD is used to produce cathode electrodes for alkaline manganese dioxide batteries and lithium-ion manganese rechargeable batteries, a growing market due to the rise of portable electronics.

 

Along with Galaxy’s under-construction 17,000 tpa lithium carbonate plant, the EMD project will see the group’s Jiangsu site emerge as a diversified supplier of battery raw materials to the Asia Pacific region.
