(AMM) AISI rips EPA on climate, supports senator's highway bill effort

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) is pleased with one senator's efforts toward reauthorization of a new highway bill, but said the road being taken by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is leading to economic trouble.
The Washington-based group commended the efforts of U.S. Sen. George Voinovich (R., Ohio), who is trying to gain a commitment from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) to take up reauthorization of a multiyear surface transportation bill this year.
However, AISI chastised EPA administrator Lisa Jackson for her response to a letter from eight other senators expressing concerns about the agency's plan to regulate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from stationary sources under the Clean Air Act (AMM, Feb. 23).
