The value of shipments by primary metals producers rose 1.1 percent in January to more than $16.5 billion from slightly less than $16.4 billion in December, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's latest report on manufacturers' shipments, inventories and new orders.
January shipments were up 8.8 percent from $15.2 billion in November.
