(AMM) Stage set for price increase in wide-flange beam market

A sharp rise in a mill raw material surcharge is setting the stage for an attempt to mount a pricing recovery in wide-flange steel beams.

Nucor-Yamato Steel Co., Blytheville, Ark., told customers this week that it will raise its surcharge by $50 to $233 per ton in April. With no offsetting change planned in the published base price, this would result in a transaction price hike of $50 per ton.

Late last week, AMM raised its consumer buying price for the Chicago market, on which most mills base their surcharge, by $50 to $395 per ton.
