(AMM) Wichita nixes cash deals for yards, sets deal uploads

The City Council of Wichita, Kansas, voted Thursday to require scrapyards to pay by check for purchases of more than $50, to set aside frequently stolen types of metal for 72 hours before processing, and, starting next year, to supply the police with a daily log of purchases.
One previously existing requirement was relaxed. Investigators wishing to segregate suspected stolen material are entitled to a 30-day hold rather than 60 days.
The automatic 72-hour set-aside applies to water valves, catalytic converters, cemetery ornaments and beer kegs.
