Producers hold high cards as Q2 FeCr settlement nears

South African charge chrome producers will approach negotiations for the second quarter benchmark price with European steelmakers in a confident mood next week as spot prices for high-carbon ferro-chrome continue to rise.

European high-carbon ferro-chrome rose to $1.25-1.30 per lb at the end of last week, up from $1.20-1.25 per lb previously and from $0.85-0.95 per lb at the beginning of the year, while US high-carbon ferro-chrome prices stand at $1.28-1.33 per lb from $0.88-0.92 per lb at the start of the year. “It’s been a crazy week, and the markets have jumped considerably,” one producer said.
