(AMM) Auto suppliers' optimism dips slightly

Automotive supplier sentiment ticked down three points in March, according to the latest "Supplier Barometer" survey by the Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA).

The barometer slid to 70 in March from 73 in January, which had been the highest level in two years, but remained well above the low point of 21 in November 2008 and the trend remains positive despite continued uncertainty about what will develop through the rest of 2010.

Part of the reason for the index's recent slippage may be that auto suppliers' parts and components production has now caught up to automakers' build schedules, which are not expected to ramp up much further anytime soon, according to survey respondents. Even those who reported significant growth in business questioned the restocking effect vs. real demand.
