European aluminium alloy rose to its highest level in 34 months on Friday on strong demand and high raw material costs though questions remain over the sustainability of the high prices
Duty paid delivered works pressure diecasting ingot (DIN226) rose to €2,000-2,050 ($2,703-2,771) per tonne on Friday, compared with $1,950-2,000 per tonne previously.
It last traded as high as €2,050 per tonne in June 2007.
“Demand from the main consumers is going up,” an Italian producer said.
A few sales were reported at prices above €2,050 per tonne, while some sold material at just under €2,000 per tonne.
“We got some sales at €2,070 and €2,080, but these are for single-truck sales. Our average price for the past week is €2,050 per tonne,” the Italian producer.
