Commissioning work at one of the extraction columns in Vale Inco's Goro nickel mine has been suspended following an acid spill that could further delay the ramp up of the long-awaited project
The spill of 690 cubic metres of diluted acid solution with dispersed organics, used for the extraction of nickel from the ore, caused no injuries and no damage to the natural environment, Vale Inco's director of corporate public affairs Cory McPhee said.
