(AMM) Metals packaging firm BWAY's outlook improves

BWAY Holding Co., which manufactures metal cans and canisters for industrial and consumer product applications, saw its fiscal second-quarter earnings fall 49.4 percent compared with a year earlier despite revenue growth of 20.3 percent, but its chief executive forecasts demand improvement for the rest of calendar 2010.

The company's net income totaled $4.4 million on sales of $248 million in the three months ended March 31 vs. net income of $8.7 million on sales of $206.1 million in the same period last year. Net income for the six months ended March 31 totaled $5.2 million, down 13.3 percent from $6 million a year earlier despite an 11.6-percent increase in sales to $467 million from $418.6 million. ...
