Traxys trades a range of industrial minerals worldwide including bauxite, fluorspar, soda ash, vermiculite and wollastonite. Michael Hochschild, head of Traxys’ industrial minerals division, shared with IM his views on the challenges to find reliable sources of material
The trading company was created in 2003 following the merger of Belgiums Sogem SA, a former subsidiary of Umicore Group focusing on base metals and concentrates, and Considar, the trading arm of Arcelor SA mainly active in North America, which specialises in supplying the steel industry with ferroalloys and specialty metals.
Traxys has territorial agency agreements with international companies including Eti Soda (soda ash and sodium bicarbonate), Sublime Technologies (silicon carbide), Mao Tai (calcined bauxite) Rand York Minerals (chromite foundry sands), Kyanite Mining, Minmetals (barytes) and North Cape Minerals (olivine).
Michael Hochschild, director of business development and responsible for the industrial minerals division worldwide, has been involved in the minerals and metals business since 1961.
