(AMM) Pipe suppliers target nuclear growth

Steel sales into the nuclear power generation market are poised to grow in the next decade with a select group of North American distributors standing to capitalize as certified suppliers.
Just a handful of North American steel distributors are certified to supply materials for nuclear power applications. Among them are Baton Rouge, La.-based Edgen Murray Corp., which recently received certification, and TW Metals Inc., Leetsdale, Pa., which was certified in 2007.
Jim Berger, Edgen Murray's director of nuclear operations, declined to estimate the size of the market in dollar terms or how certification could increase revenue, although customer "reaction has been very favorable," he noted. "Many of our commercial customers expressed an interest in having us pursue this aspect (of the energy business) and being of assistance to nuclear as it grows and expands."
