With the expansion of its brine operation in Argentina secured, FMC Lithium shifts its strategy to quality as it reacts to the needs of cathode manufacturers

For FMC Corp., the world’s third largest lithium carbonate producer by capacity, a new innovation-focused business strategy is emerging.

Since starting production from the Salar de Hombre Muerto in Argentina in 1997, FMC has established a strong foothold in the industry a decade before a glut of lithium juniors started to emerge.

The USA based producer also recently announced an expansion of the operation by 30% equating to 7,000 tpa lithium carbonate boosting capacity to 23,000 tpa by the end of 2011 (IM June 2010,p.13: FMC Lithium expansion points to robust markets outside of EV).

FMC’s focus on processing technology is now paying dividends and delivering higher quality lithium for its customers.
