Government moves to shift country to a higher value goods supplier
Only a few years ago China was the worlds go-to country for cheap consumer goods and upstream products such as industrial minerals; a trade relationship the country encouraged by undercutting prices and forcing other well-established suppliers out of business. Chinas doors were opened wide.
But no longer. The government is keen to rejuvenate its countrys image and slowly but surely Chinas industry is swinging from a cash-and-carry, mass supplier, to a conscientious developer of high value goods, such as automobiles and fluorochemicals (see p.38: New dawn for fluorine refrigerants).
