(AMM) Fears emerge as aluminum scrap prices rise

Aluminum scrap prices to smelters have risen 1 to 2 cents per pound during the past week, but some consumers expressed concern about possibly excessive scrap holdings.

Mixed low copper clips are in a spot market range of 71 to 72 cents per pound, up 2 cents, while old sheet and cast is at 64 to 65 cents per pound, up 1 cent.

"We've seen these (futures) markets gyrate so much, we're trying to stay as square as possible," aligning scrap buys with additions to the order book, one alloying executive said.
