(AMM) Sherritt 'comfortable' with Ambatovy schedule

Mechanical completion of the closely watched Ambatovy Project in Madagascar is on schedule for early 2011, Sherritt International Corp. said as it reported a sharp drop in profits in the second quarter.

"We're very comfortable with the schedule at our big project in Madagascar," Ian Delaney, Sherritt executive chairman, said during a conference call. "We're also comfortable with the capital number there; we don't think there's much possibility of any leakage there."

Toronto-based Sherritt has staked much on Ambatovy, which at an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes of nickel and 5,600 tonnes of cobalt would be...
