Comex copper volumes rise 83% in 2010

Trading volumes on the CME Group's Comex copper contract have increased by 83% year-on-year since the start of 2010, the USA-based exchange told MB

Just over 6 million copper futures and options were traded on Comex between January 1 and July 27 2010, compared with 3.3 million in the same period of 2009, Comex figures show. “We’ve had some fantastic growth in our Comex copper contract,” CME group metals products Europe, Middle East & Africa director James Oliver told MB. CME Group boosted operating profit by 29% to $515 million in the three months to June compared with the corresponding period in 2009 as volumes in all of its asset classes grew, CME said on Thursday. Volumes in the Comex copper contract during the first half of 2010 were up 95% on the first half of 2009, Oliver pointed out.
