GrowMax, a subsidiary of Americas Petrogas Inc., Canada, is developing a surface potash brine reservoir and evaporite deposit at Bayovar in the Sechura Desert of north-west Peru

GrowMax is in the process of completing a pre-feasibility study of the potash fertiliser project which should provide a preliminary basis for locations of solar evaporation ponds, capital costs, and operating costs.

Completion of the pre-feasibility study is expected in Q3 2010, and the company is planning to start potash production through its subsidiary Americas Potash Peru SA by 2012.

Americas Petrogas’ partner shareholder is Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative(IFFC). IFFC is the world’s largest manufacturer and marketer of fertiliser in the cooperative sector with over 50m. farmers associated with it and five fertiliser plants producing a total of approximately 8.2m. tonnes of phosphate and nitrogen fertilisers (IM 12 February 2010: GrowMax potash gets $10m. boost).
