Workers at the beleaguered Teesside Cast Products (TCP) steelworks have reason to be hopeful. Last week, Corus, the plant’s owner, said it had signed a MoU to sell the north-of-England facility to Thailand’s Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI). A sales agreement is yet to emerge, but this is encouraging. Corus should be congratulated for the progress it has made and for the effort it has expended in finding a solution for the site — it has been a very difficult process. The political interests that have infiltrated the talks surrounding TCP should not.
