(AMM) Houston steel cargoes on rise, port officials say

Steel cargoes through the Port of Houston rose sharply in July, Alec G. Dreyer, the Port of Houston Authority's chief executive, said Tuesday.

He noted "a consistent and strong improvement in lagging commodities, particularly steel, which continues to methodically improve."

July steel shipments were the highest since March 2009, Dreyer said, totaling 282,302 short tons, up 69.7 percent from June's 166,319 tons. Shipments had totaled 212,616 tons in May and 195,000 tons in April.
