European silicon prices fell further on Wednesday, as metallurgical industry buyers dropped their requirements following strong buying earlier in the year, while other buyers held back from the market in anticipation of further price reductions
“Volumes are definitely down, but it’s not because of a lack of consumption,” a producer said. “Consumption across all the major markets has been good.”
MB’s European silicon price fell to €2,200-2,400 ($3,097-3,379) per tonne from €2,300-2,450 previously, after market participants reported even lower prices earlier in the week. One consumer reported business for 553 grade silicon as low as €2,150 per tonne late last week.
