COALTRANS: Cosipar and Mir Steel UK move forward with Brazilian slab mill talks

Brazilian merchant pig iron group Cosipar and Mir Steel UK are still in discussions about building a slab mill in Brazil’s northern state of Pará.

“I’m going to Russia next week to meet representatives from [Mir Steel UK and Mechel’s owner] Igor Zyuzin to discuss our partnership,” Claudio Monteiro, Cosipar’s executive director, said on the sidelines of Coltrans Brazil conference in Rio de Janeiro. Earlier this year, Monteiro and some of his brothers created a joint venture with Zyuzin called RAM (Russian and Monteiro), in which the Russian billionaire has a 75% stake and the Brazilians the remaining 25%.
