Quadra FNX in nickel ore offtake talks

Canadian miner Quadra FNX Ltd. is in talks with a potential offtake partner for nickel ore produced at its McCreedy West operations after Brazilian miner Vale SA waived its rights to the ore for a three-year period.

The companies need to establish the third party’s ability to process the ore, which is high in magnesium, before an offtake is agreed, the spokeswoman said.

Nickel mining at McCreedy West in Sudbury, Ontario, was suspended in late 2008 due to the poor economic environment as the company focused on copper and precious metals, according to its Web site.
