Manganese flake prices rose on Friday as production in China dipped due to national power shortages
MB free-market manganese flake prices rose to $3,350-400 per tonne, from $3,330-370 per tonne previously, as Chinese producers grew reluctant or unable to offer material to the international market.
Manganese producers in Yunnan and Guangxi have been particularly hurt by national power shortages, while output in Hunan and Guizhou has also been affected.
Electricity output from coal and hydroelectric plants is under strain during the peak demand season, a trader in London said.
