Teck targets higher capacity, mine reopening

Teck Resources Ltd. is working to increase its metallurgical coal output to 30 million tonnes per year by 2013 by lifting capacity at currently operational mines and reopening one that has been idle for more than a decade.

The company is on track to produce between 23.5 million and 24.5 million tonnes of steelmaking coal this year. Teck is working to increase output at six southeastern British Columbia mines and restart its Quintette operation, adding 1,500 workers to meet those goals.
