ArcelorMittal will close one Liège flats mill, along with blast furnaces

A flat products mill at Chertal, part of ArcelorMittal’s Liège works, will be closed permanently as part of cost-cutting measures that will also see 2.5 million tpy of liquid steel capacity at the Belgian works idled permanently, the company told MB
The company was unable to confirm the capacity of the flat
products mill on Monday evening. As well as two blast furnaces
– at Ougree and Seraing – and the flats mill,
a continuous casting facility and sintering plant will also be
closed. It costs €40 per tonne more to produce hot rolled
coil at Liège than it does at
ArcelorMittal’s other mills in northern
