US UBC deposit return systems create more jobs, study says

Returning used beverage cans (UBCs) that are earmarked for recycling in order to recoup a deposit creates more jobs than curbside efforts do, according to a recent study by the Container Recycling Institute (CRI).
The study examined three types of recycling—curbside collection, deposit return and community dropoff—and determined that deposit systems generate dramatically higher volumes, and require the employment of more workers to collect, sort and transport the material.
