AMM MEXICO: ArcelorMittal Mexico to remain in slab sales market

ArcelorMittal Mexico does not plan to leave the slab sales market in the near future, a move its Brazilian sister company, ArcelorMittal Tubarão, has been considering.
“We’ll continue in the slab market; we’re one of the only players to produce and sell slabs,” sales director Gustavo Campos told Metal Bulletin on the sidelines of AMM’s 17th Annual Mexican Steel Conference in Monterrey.
ArcelorMittal Tubarão, the largest slab seller within ArcelorMittal, has been studying the installation of a 3.5 million-tpy hot strip mill. This would take its total finished steel capacity to 7.5 million tpy, matching its total slab production capacity.
