Kazakhmys meets cathode production target for 2011; zinc output falls 17%

Kazakh copper producer Kazakhmys produced 300,500 tonnes of copper cathode in 2011, down 1.8% from the previous year but in line with its full-year production target, the company said on Thursday January 26.
Cathode production from the company’s own concentrate fell by 1.6% to 298,500 tonnes in 2011, on lower concentrate output which totalled 304,900 tonnes compared with 337,900 tonnes a year earlier.
A 1.5% increase in mined ore to 33.4 million tonnes was offset by anticipated lower ore grades.
