Vedanta may apply for fresh environmental clearance for alumina refinery expansion project

Vedanta Aluminium will start fresh talks with the Indian ministry of environment and forests for permission to begin work on the 5 million tpy brownfield expansion project of its alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, Orissa.
The negotiations will start after the Orissa high court declined Vedanta’s review petition last weekend.
Vedanta filed a review petition after the high court upheld the ministry’s order to stop work on the expansion to 6 million tpy from 1 million tpy in July last year.
At that time, the high court made it clear Vedanta would have to start the process of seeking environmental clearance afresh.
