Brazil's iron ore exports sink 46.5% in January

Brazilian iron ore exports plunged by 46.5% month-on-month in January on the back of reduced demand from China and the European Union, as well as the effects of heavy rains in the country’s south-eastern region.
Brazilian miners exported only 18.18 million tonnes of iron ore in January, down from 34 million tonnes in December, according to the national foreign trade ministry.
Compared with January 2011, last month’s iron ore exports fell by 19.9%, from 22.7 million tonnes.
