Nucor holds most March plate prices unchanged

At least one major steelmaker will hold prices for carbon-grade plate unchanged in March, dispelling earlier speculation that a third first-quarter increase could be in the works.
But the group’s heat-treat plate prices for March will increase by $40 per ton effective with orders scheduled to ship this week, the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker said.
Nucor’s decision to hold carbon-grade plate prices steady for March might have come as a surprise to some players in the market, who said they had heard rumblings recently of another increase due to mills’ steady order entry rate (AMM, Jan. 20).
