Underperforming metallurgical coal mines, driven by challenging longwall mine moves, had a negative impact on Patriot Coal Corp.’s fourth-quarter results, but the new year is shaping up to be stronger, the company said.
"It is difficult to talk prices because we are engaged in talks with domestic customers and are about to discuss prices with the international market, (but we) expect we are going to see comparable demands on both domestic and international markets," Richard M. Whiting, Patriot’s president and chief executive officer, said during the company’s earnings...
