SAFM mulls Ponto Verde iron ore expansion in Brazil

Australia-based South American Ferro Metals (SAFM) will wait until the third quarter of 2012 before it decides whether to go ahead with an expansion programme at its Ponto Verde iron ore project in Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil.
The expansion would take total production capacity to 6 million tpy of run-of-mine (ROM) ore, which would equate to 3 million tpy of finished iron ore products.
The company sells its entire output of beneficiated iron ore – lump ore and sinter feed – domestically in Brazil to pig iron makers...
