India's HRC producers may face domestic price war

Key Indian producers of hot rolled coil (HRC) have kept prices for material booked in February unchanged for domestic customers in an attempt to increase sales volumes, which could result in a price war among steel mills.
Tata Steel, JSW Steel and JSW Ispat have all rolled over their January prices for February, while producers such as Essar Steel and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) have increased prices by Rs500 ($10) per tonne for domestic sales of the commodity.
Indian HRC prices were in the range of Rs36,250-36,750 ($732-742) per tonne ex-mill for January production, while the mills that have increased their prices in the first week of February had them at Rs36,750-37,250.
