Chile's 2011 rebar shipments return to pre-credit crunch levels

Shipments of rebar to Chile’s domestic construction industry returned last year to the levels last seen in 2008, according to the country’s construction chamber, CCHC.
The increase was a result of recovery in the local steel market as well as improved demand from the construction sector, CCHC said.
In 2011, rebar shipments came to 542,340 tonnes, compared with 536,742 tonnes reported in 2008.
In comparison with 2010, last year’s rebar shipments increased by 27.7% from 424,531 tonnes.
