Investment, investment, investment: that was the word on the lips of every junior miner at the Mining Indaba in Cape Town this week as they sought to push their projects closer to production and scouted for the perfect partner.
Mining majors pledged to pour further resources into African projects, and financiers from global and local banks were locked in meetings with prospective clients on the sidelines.
The mood of the conference was largely optimistic, if lacking the euphoria of last year’s event.
Many delegates, seeing the number of people still queuing for their entry passes several hours into conference, said they thought it looked like the busiest year ever.
