MINING INDABA 2012: Ferrox mulls steel mill after Tivani mine commissions in 2013

Iron ore junior miner Ferrox wants to commission its Tivani mine in South Africa’s Limpopo province by the end of next year, and has plans to develop a new steel mill close by, ceo David McAdam told Metal Bulletin on the sidelines of the Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
The iron ore mine will have about 10 million tpy run-of-mine capacity, with a concentrator plant to produce 2.5 million tpy of iron ore concentrate.
“We want to commission the mine in 18 months, if all goes well, and we are in discussions on and off about the prospect of putting up a steel mill,” McAdam said on Thursday February 9.
