Economic growth in the Gulf Coast is outstripping the rest of the country, thanks to energy, agriculture and demand from developing economies, according to a Federal Reserve official.
That separation between the Houston area and the rest of the country is largely a result of high prices for oil and food, demand for metals and agricultural commodities, and a stronger employment rate, Gilmer said.
Jobs are being created in the "petrochemical crescent," not only upstream by high oil prices boosting drilling activity but also downstream as low natural gas prices bolster...
