China’s refined copper imports dropped by 17.6% in January while copper scrap shipments nearly halved, according to Chinese customs.
Imports became loss-making in January, cutting demand for copper from overseas, but the month was also disrupted by the Chinese New Year.
Refined copper imports dropped to 335,580 tonnes last month, from December’s record 406,937 tonnes, customs said. The volume was up by 36.6% year-on-year.
