BRAZIL EXPORTS DECEMBER 2013: Manganese ore and nickel shipments down; ferro-alloys up

Brazil’s exports of manganese ore and nickel fell in December, whereas ferro-alloys trade reported increase, according to figures from the country’s trade ministry.
Manganese ore Manganese ore exports fell 24.6% year-on-year
in December on fewer volumes sent to China. Exports totalled
119,090 tonnes for the month, compared with 158,049 tonnes in
December 2012.The figure, however, represents a sharp increase
from November 2013 shipments, when 9,194 tonnes were
exported. Total exports for the year of 2013 amounted to
1.85 million tonnes, compared with 1.55 million tonnes the year
before. Revenues in December amounted to $14.3 million,
compared with $22.12 million the same time last year. China
acquired 42,575 tonnes in the month, compared with 141,000
tonnes a year earlier. France, the main importer in the period,
received 76,421 tonnes from no shipments in December 2012.
