Poor demand, weak lira still plague Turkish long steel producers

The long steel market in Turkey is still suffering from sluggish demand as well as the weakness of the lira, market sources told Metal Bulletin sister title Steel First on Thursday January 23.

No significant sales of rebar have been heard so far this week. However, some small cargoes were sold into the Middle East-North Africa (Mena) region and to the USA, the sources added. A number of mills sold rebar into the USA, while sales of 3,000-5,000 tonnes were heard into Mena, one Turkish producer said.
