Delegates are reminded that the Day 1 opening chairman's remarks will be at 9am on Tuesay 20th April |
Lead may not be defying gravity as it did a couple of years ago, but the price remains historically high and uncharacteristically volatile. The lead market is an uncertain place, with Chinese smelter closures, speculative interest, overcapacity in some areas, environmental concerns, and the great battery race all forming a melting pot of influences and pressure points.
While the price did sink heavily at the depth of the global credit crunch, there has been no return to the slow, predictable price pattern of yesteryear. Lead today is becoming ever more commoditised, with all that means in terms of price volatility and surprises. The main players in the industry – on both the producing and consuming side – are reshaping and repositioning to adapt to this new reality, heightening the need for up-to-date market insight and networking opportunities.
Metal Bulletin Events' inaugural lead conference in London in 2008 established a new forum for incisive and informative debate and comment. Following on from this, in 2010 we take our 2nd World Lead Conference to Dusseldorf, in northern Europe’s industrial heartland, to examine the key challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in this changing global marketplace.
Key programme topics include:
- Outlook for lead prices and premiums over the short and longer term
- The China factor – smelter supply, domestic consumption and government policy
- The impact of price volatility on industry health and strategy
- Lead mining and the concentrate base – tonnage, type and treatment charges
- Recycling as a key element in lead supply and sustainability
- Primary versus secondary – what are the issues and the advantages?
- Regulation and the environment – what further hurdles lie ahead?
- Can lead clean up its image – who needs to do what?
- Beyond China, what hopes for demand growth? What of India and other emerging economies?
- Automotive demand outlook – implications for lead and battery suppliers
- Innovation and application in batteries and other end-uses – is lead winning the battle?
