Metal Bulletin Events and SMR’s 11th Asian Stainless Steel Conference has established itself as the undisputed No. 1 pan-Asia stainless steel event. Building on the success of previous years, over 150 participants are expected to attend again this year, giving delegates the chance to meet and network with the entire supply chain – from raw materials to end users – in the region and internationally.

A high ranking circle of Chinese and Asian speakers from suppliers, distributors and fabricators will discuss the relevant issues in a two-day conference that offers unrivalled networking and discussion platforms.

The health of the global stainless steel industry has been widely dominated by the events that has happened in China. Raw material prices exploded as a result of the rapid expansion of the Chinese Stainless steel industry who produced last year 52 % of the global output. However, it collapsed in 2015 as the 20-year long expansion there came to a sudden halt. Now virtually everyone in the industry has to re-write the textbook for the coming years and adjust its strategy accordingly.

Key talking points that are on everybody’s mind and where the answers can be best found at this premium stainless steel event in June:

  • Will the Chinese stainless steel market stagnate again in 2016, or regain momentum?
  • What market segments are growth drivers and which ones inhibitors?
  • How serious are Chinese plans to reduce overcapacity?
  • What will happen to smaller producers and private mills?
  • Will the stainless steel consolidation that began in Japan ‘spill-over’ to other Asian countries?
  • Will the cutbacks in Nickel, Chrome and Molybdenum production be sufficient to bring the 2016 markets into deficits?
  • Update and outlook for the transfer of Chinese NPI and stainless steel production to Indonesia
  • Which countries could become strong competitors to Chinese stainless fabricators - Vietnam? Myanmar?
  • Protectionism on the rise - when will China run out of export destinations?
  • When will we reach the bottom of raw material prices?
  • What is the real situation of the Chinese credit bubble? And how will it affect the global economy?
  • Can the Chinese stainless steel industry be transformed from mass commodity products to value add products?
  • How can Japan and South Korea defend their market position in Asia?
  • Are Chinese producers still cost-competitive with today’s low raw material prices?
  • Update on the latest investments of special steel producers in Asia - has the investment hype come to an end?
  • What M&A activity can be expected for the near future? What capacity will be really taken out of the market?
